"For God's sake, Nightshade. Just kill them." Galvin snarled. "We have to get out of here before the sun rises, you know that." The order was a deathblow to her resolve to be a good Dark Elf, and she tried to think up some reason not to do it. Nightshade, a half-breed Dark Elf, known as the Drow, is raised in the violent ways of her father. Faced with an order to kill a human child, she realizes she can no longer follow the path of darkness. Sunstar, a Forest Elf and a princess, is captured by the Drow and taken to their city to be sport for their king. Can Nightshade's resolve to turn against her violent past be enough for her to rescue Sunstar and return her safely home?

Dark Elf Jordan Falconer Books

Interesting and entertaining, but a bit too predictable. Also I felt like both beginning and the end are a bit of lower quality than the rest of the book. The beginning practically introduces main characters, and of course provides the setup with kidnapping, but hardly anything more.
Almost like the author had the "core" story already, but didn't know how to start.
The end of the book - seems like it was stretched - it's hard to explain without giving spoilers, but here is the thing:
In majority of the book a number of "bad buys" plays a constant role (abuse/pursue). Then we kind of get something like "final confrontation" about 80% of the book (against those ones), and then there is this additional 20% with "final confrontation 2".
True one of the original antagonists remains to be dealt with, but the rest are practically both introduced and dealt with in that last 15% of book.

Dark Elf Jordan Falconer Books Reviews

You were pulled into the story right away. Two main characters that you care about. I finished the book way to fast.
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. The emotional ties of the two main characters could be felt and I would suggest this book to any looking for a happy love story. There is a sex scene but it's not too erotic it fits in nicely with the storyline.
cute wlw romance
Loved the characters and how they grew throughout the book. I read ut through in a few sittings. Truly enjoyed it.
What I wanted was a fantasy novel that had a good story and a romance. I got a romance of sorts, but the story part was a failure. All the characters were very shallow and did not act in logical or believable ways. Antagonists were evil just for the sake of being evil while the protagonists were bumbling around getting themselves captured (over and over and over again). The plot had more holes than substance; things just conveniently happened in a way that was beyond belief. By the time I finished the novel I was begging it to just end. The characters did seem somewhat interesting and I wanted to cheer them on, but the pathetic storyline plot just kept me from really getting enthusiastic about them.

The problem is, and why I dislike the book so much, is that there was so much wasted potential. The author clearly knows how to write. If they had fleshed the story out, given more depth to everything, and made it more logical, this story could have been great.

I won't bother reading any more books by this author.
I really liked the two main characters, however I found the characters in this book a little black or white, either good or bad. I tend to dislike stories with villains that are evil just for the sake of being evil. In this case, being a Drow, or dark elf, was a bit too convenient. Some of the Drow character's actions didn't really make sense. For example, a pesky prisoner escapes, and the king goes out of his way to be in the hunting party, putting himself in harm's way?

The two main characters really care about each other right from the start but don't really express it until right at the end, which was quite frustrating. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if their relationship started developing DURING the story.

I liked it, but I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it.
I enjoyed the majority of the book, the characters and with only a few issues. I definitely recommend this bit of fantasy.

The Dark Elf in question doesn't want to be the most evil in the land, indeed, doesn't want to be evil at all. The captured princess, caring for her and their escape is a good story. The detail is a proper level with several twists as the plans and plots of others throwing the path of the story into several different directions. All quite well done.

The only jarring thing I saw, and I admit this is just my own problem, was the use of a word that didn't come into existence until the 1950's. Rats, 'enthralled' would have been a much better phrase. And the reactions by others to the final solution was - merely typical, where I wanted more of a fairy tale ending. The ending was good, don't get me wrong. Just not enough acceptance and sadly that is still true the world over.
